The Destruction Business
And then I saw a boy denouncing
his parents to the secret police,
the parents walking into a cul-de-sac
called “1 + 1 = 3” and scrambling
to find a way back out – a common condition
halfway between creation and decay,
in which wine froze on the table
and milk froze in a cow’s bulging udder,
and there were torn roofs everywhere
and rusted steel girders, and it was nearly
always dark except for a single apple.
